Botanical Description: Salacia nitida typically grows as a climbing shrub or vine, which is common for many members of the Celastraceae family. It can also take a somewhat bushy appearance with support. The stems are woody and can climb other vegetation or structures to gain sunlight. The leaves of Salacia nitida are simple, opposite, and usually glossy with a leathery texture. They tend to be elliptic or ovate with a smooth margin. The plant produces small and inconspicuous flowers, which are typical for the family. Flowers are generally yellowish to greenish, sometimes with a hint of red or pink. The fruit of Salacia nitida is a capsule that splits open when mature to release seeds. Seeds are generally dispersed by animals, particularly birds that are attracted to the fruit.
