Botanical Description: Newbouldia laevis is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree, typically growing to a height of 6 to 10 meters (20 to 33 feet), with a spread nearly as wide. The tree has a short, often twisted trunk and spreading branches, forming a dense, rounded crown. The leaves of Newbouldia laevis are compound, with 5 to 7 ovate leaflets per leaf. Each leaflet is about 6 to 13 cm (2.4 to 5.1 inches) long. Leaves are smooth, glossy green, and arranged in opposite pairs along the branches. The tree produces striking, dense clusters of tubular flowers at the ends of its branches. Flowers are usually bright pink or purple, occasionally white, making the tree highly ornamental. It typically flowers just before or during the rainy season, which can vary by location but generally falls between April and July. The fruit is a capsule, elongated, and about 20 cm (7.9 inches) long.
