  • Botanical Description: Citrus grandis, commonly known as the pomelo, is a large, subtropical citrus fruit tree belonging to the Rutaceae family.Citrus grandis is a large, evergreen tree that can reach heights of up to 20 feet (6 meters) or more. It has a rounded canopy with dense foliage. The leaves of Citrus grandis are glossy, ovate to elliptical in shape, and typically grow alternately on the branches. They are dark green in color and can range from 3 to 8 inches (7.5 to 20 centimeters) in length.The flowers of Citrus grandis are white, fragrant, and typically appear singly or in small clusters at the leaf axils. They have five petals and are often pollinated by bees or other insects.The fruit of Citrus grandis, known as the pomelo, is the largest citrus fruit. It is typically round to slightly pear-shaped and can range in size from the size of a grapefruit to as large as a small watermelon. The rind is thick and usually yellow to yellow-green in color, with a spongy texture. The flesh varies from pale yellow to pink or red, depending on the variety, and is divided into segments similar to other citrus fruits. Pomelos have a sweet, mild flavor with a hint of tartness.
